The institute was established in 2002 and is a California non-profit, public-benefit corporation, tax-exempt under federal and state regulations. Girvan headquarters are located in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Girvan also strives to provide educational opportunities for students of business and engineering and the applied sciences through internships that place such students in real-world hands-on positions with Girvan and its affiliated organization.
